CREATING A CARD WITH SWIRLY BIRD FROM STAMPIN' UP! |
T oday's card is actually a color challenge for a Facebook group I belong to. We were challenged to use Stampin' Up! colors Melon Mambo, Mango Melody and Pool Party, as well as any stamp set from the current Stampin' Up! catalog. I decided to use the Swirly Bird stamp set along with the coordinating Swirly Scribbles Thinlits Dies. The stamps themselves invoke so many ideas by themselves; birds, sailboats flowers...I can go on and on. Pairing the stamps with the coordinating dies opens up so many more ideas. Also, I really like this color combination. I think this simple card turned out great.

I started with a piece of Whisper White card stock, cutting it to 5 18 x 3 1/8. This is my top layer. I used the little dots in the stamp set and all three colors of ink to create the background. Make sure to clean your stamp between colors. I used the medium "swirly" stamp to stamp the image (one in each color) onto the now patterned background. I then took 3 scrap pieces of the white card stock and did direct ink to paper to create colored card stock. Using the coordinating Thinlit Die, I cut one in each color using my Bigshot.
I used Tombow Mono Liquid adhesive to glue the die cut pieces over bur slightly off the stamped swirlys. This gives dimension. I used a sentiment from the Artistically Asian stamp set and stamped it on a scrap piece of card stock, trimmed it down, and used Stampin' Dimensionals to pop it up. I attached the panel onto a piece of Whisper White card stock cut at 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 and scored down the middle at 4 1/4.
I think the bright colors are very cheerful and the sentiment is uplifting, but you could use any sentiment you choose.
